Preschool welcome back families - old and new
11th September 2020
We would like to say a big WELCOME to all the children in Preschool! It has been lovely to see you all and welcome some new families. A special hello to all of the new children who have joined us in Preschool this week.
We were pleased to see all the children excited to come into Preschool and settle in so well and quickly, ready to share all of their summer holiday news. Dinosaurs have been a clear firm favorite this week, with lots of shared facts and role play ideas from the children. This led us to make a ‘Dinosaur land’ after we collected grass, sticks and mud to make the dinosaurs feel at home. Thank you to Benji’s mum for sharing the dinosaur museum pictures on Tapestry. Please feel free to update Tapestry with any activities and trips enjoyed at home, as well as any achievements, which we can then share and celebrate with the children in Preschool.
As the weather has been warm, the children have been busy enjoying lots of child initiated activities inside and out. We have spent most of the week outside, free playing in the garden to help the children settle, develop friendships and begin to get to know each other and us. Dinosaurs, the home corner, painting, bugs, cars and bikes have been a few observed favorites. Please feel free to talk to your child's key worker or share on Tapestry any new developed interests over the summer. Circle time has been a beneficial time for us to talk to the children and begin to learn and discover their individual personalities. We have also used this time to learn and explore our emotions, where the children were given the opportunity to choose happy, sad, angry, worried or a tired face. We are pleased everyone has chosen a happy face so far. This activity has supported the children to begin to learn and visualise their own emotions as well as others. We will continue to explore our emotions next week as we focus on ‘what makes us happy’.
This first half term, we will be focusing on ‘All About Me’ as we get to know the children and learn about their families, likes and interests. Please may we ask you to email or upload family photos on Tapestry to support our activities next week, which will then be added on to our ‘Family Tree’ display in the home corner. Please may we also ask that everything that comes into Preschool is named, and that we have a pair of wellies and a change of clothes. Also, If your child would like to bring in their own water bottle then please do so.
We look forward to seeing you all again next week and welcoming the new children in Preschool.
