Reception - busy start of school life

Reception have been very busy settling into Gateway school life. They have made new friends and are really beginning to find their feet. Don’t they all look so smart in their new uniform too?

This term, Reception are looking at ‘Amazing Me.’ They have started thinking about themselves, their families and how they are different from each other. Children have been drawing self portraits and have been perfecting their name writing too. They especially loved drawing self portraits of themselves after looking in a mirror during their recent Art lesson with Miss Lawrance.

The children finished their first week of school by presenting their families with a photo collage of exciting things they had been up to in a photo frame they had carefully painted and decorated.

As well as settling into their creative environment where they have explored lots, (both inside and outside) they have been thinking about what they would like to include in their learning around our topic during Ownership of Learning.

In French they have also been learning a few French greetings such as ‘Bonjour,’ and ‘Au revoir.’ As well as learning about French culture and the names of different types of animals.

The children have also enjoyed looking for leaves ready to decorate their harvest box for the Harvest Festival. They put on their wellies and ventured to the bottom of the field in search of the most exciting leaves and sticks so that they could do leaf rubbings in Autumn colours.

An extremely busy, yet fun and exciting start to their school life here at Gateway School.
