Reception children attempt the chopstick challenge
24th January 2020
Xīnnián kuàilè - or should we say ‘Happy New Year’ in Mandarin! This week Reception have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We have set up a role play area for a restaurant and on Friday we were lucky enough to have a tasty treat of noodles and spring rolls. Some of us even managed to eat the delicious food using chopsticks! The chopstick challenge from earlier on in the week certainly helped with that skill. We looked at traditional dragon dances and made our own dragon mask, looking at symmetry and pattern. The children then used large sheets of material to have a go at making their own dragon dance to music. We found out that it wasn’t as easy as it looks! We all made a chinese hand drum using paper plates, paint, ribbon and beads. We then decorated them with a chinese number. We have really had a lot of fun this week, enjoy the weekend and see you all on Monday!
