Reception dress up for Diwali

The children have been learning all about estimating this week in their numeracy lessons. They have been using a variety of items such as toy fish, marbles and even trainers to estimate larger amounts accurately. We all had a good guess and then checked our answers by carefully counting the items, moving one or sometimes two at a time to find the total. Reception are enjoying learning new mathematical vocabulary such as estimate, total, sum, number sentence and are gaining confidence when using this in their everyday conversations. Over the last couple of weeks we have been listening to the story of Rama and Sita and widening our knowledge and understanding of Diwali, the Hindu ‘Festival of lights’ We hope you saw a little snapshot of some of the activities on our Facebook page!
