Reception enjoy first week in 'big school'

What a busy time Reception have had during their first full week in ‘big school’! The teachers have been very impressed with how well the children have been taking responsibility of their personal belongings at the start of each day. It has been lovely to see them already adapting to the school routines and taking that first step to becoming independent learners. Throughout this week Reception have really enjoyed listening to what their peers like or what they enjoy doing and with the help of ‘Jigsaw Jeanie’ are learning to wait their turn and ask their friends questions to find out more about them. We have enjoyed doing a mix of own class and joint activities encouraging social interaction across the year group. Lunch in the new school hall has worked very well and we have seen some really super table manners during this time. Well done boys and girls!

To support your child at home this week, you might like to encourage them to dress and undress independently. Please can the children focus on turning their clothes the right way round and folding their clothes neatly in a pile at the end of each day. Please can you make sure that all children have white PE socks in their kit bag which must also be named. If your child hasn’t yet bought in a plastic wallet for the reading records please can that be in school by the end of next week also. Thank you.

Next week: Reception will be focusing on the seasons in a year and sequencing the days of the week, thinking about our favourite day.
