Reception learn more about Harvest

This week the children have been learning more about Harvest this week and loved making their own bread, we hope when it was cooked at home it was as delicious as it looked! Outside we have been taking advantage of the glorious weather, pretending to go on our own journeys, using our vivid imaginations to transport us to faraway destinations! We even used the toy cars to make wheel prints on paper in a variety of colours. Through both practical and recorded work we have been making repeating patterns in either shape or colour or sometimes even both!

Next week we will be looking at a story called 'The Magic Bed', encouraging the children to use their imagination and pretend they are going on a journey on a magic bed. What would the magic word be to transport them to that place? In science we will be continuing to talk about the forces of pushing and pulling and will be investigating and naming the parts of a real bike. On Friday 10th October we will be going to Bekonscot Model visit for our first trip out; let’s hope the sunshine will stay out until then!

At home, you might like to focus on addition and language, such as one more, add, plus, how many, count on and total. If you hear your child talk about number sentences then this is what they would be referring to: 4+1=5 or 8+1=9. Please use this terminology as much as possible at home so that the same vocabulary is being reinforced all the time.
