Reception learn about holidays beside the seaside

Reception enjoyed learning about holidays at the seaside from the past this week. It was interesting to look at black and white photographs from the ‘olden days’ and to compare how beach holidays in England differ to those today. We thought it would have been rather hot to wear such long, heavy clothes and hats to the beach on a sunny day! We talked about the popular sweet ‘rock’ and we watched a video on how it is made. During our numeracy lessons we had fun measuring using our hand spans. We drew around our hand and cut it out of card and then chose different items around the classroom to measure. We noticed that Miss McCarthy needed less hand spans to measure the mantel piece and we needed more because our hand spans are smaller. On Friday we had a fantastic day at Shortenills and really enjoyed our ‘Room on the Broom’ activities, from finding broomsticks, measuring them, estimating, sorting lengths and even thinking about spells and potion making. I’m sure everyone will sleep well this evening! Please may we remind you that if your child has not brought their costume into school yet that they will need it on Monday in preparation for our dress rehearsal and final production on Friday 1st July. We look forward to seeing you all at 1.15pm at the Great Missenden Hall for the grand performance!
