Reception - 'We're going on a bear hunt'

The children were fully involved in our story of the week ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ written by Michael Rosen, definitely a firm favourite amongst Reception! We listened to Michael Rosen as he performed the story to us on the interactive whiteboard and had a great time acting out the various parts with him. We talked about the importance of using good descriptive words to make stories and writing more interesting. During muddy morning on Thursday we had the perfect opportunity to go ‘squelch squerch’ through the mud and use our imagination to go ‘splosh splash’ to cross the deep, cold river. During Numeracy we have focussed on a variety of 2d shapes, looking at their properties and counting the number of sides and corners each may have. We even had our very own shape hunt! To continue the topic of Journey’s we studied Miss McCarthy’s own passport and looked carefully at the information needed on it before we went ahead and made our own. We had to concentrate really hard to make sure that our passport photo had a straight face as opposed to our usual everyday smiley ones! Miss McCarthy is also very proud of her class for delivering their first juniors school assembly on Friday! Although a little nervous to star, everybody did a fantastic job. Very well done!

We are looking forward to seeing you for our celebration assembly in the school hall on Wednesday 21st October at 2.30pm. Reception have had a fantastic first half of term and are really excited to share lots of their hard work with you.

After the half term holiday our new topic will be ‘Toys and Play’. Over the half term you might like to go to the library and have find out some information about favourite toys and games or toys of the past for example.
