ISA U11 Netball Tournament - Friday 4 March
11th March 2016
This event is held every year at the Redbridge sports centre in Essex. We arrived in plenty of time and the girls warmed up eagerly. Each game was 16 minutes with a minute for half time.
Our first match was against Oaklands School. We started extremely well with our team constantly on the attack. The girls worked really well together and with excellent shooting from Roisin and Kimberly we won the match 11-0. We then played against King Alfred school and once again we were the dominating team with good defence and attack and won the match 9-2.
Our third game in the round robin was against Northwood College. This was a much more difficult game. We were very much on the defence in this match and were 0 - 3 down at half time, however with hard work great defence and determination the team fought back to finish the match with a draw 4-4.
The last match in the round robin pool was against Avon House. This was a very evenly fought match with both teams scoring goals. The girls tried really hard and we ended up with another draw this time the result was 5-5. After a tense wait we found that we had gone through to the knock out stage after all as second in our pool.
We then faced St James in the quarter Finals. We started well with two or three opportunities to score but St James were extremely good in defence and we were unable to capitalise on our opportunities. The girls lacked confidence occasionally but never once gave up. They showed resilience in getting free and gaining possession but the St James team made it truly difficult to pass the ball so were successful in turning over the ball and going on the attack to score. We ultimately lost this match 2-9
The girls had worked so very hard and were very disappointed not to go through to the semi-finals. However they should really be proud of their achievement at reaching the quarter finals; especially as the St James team went on to win the entire tournament. St James School also won the U13 tournament which was held at the same time thus showing the standard of their success. I am always proud of the girls’ effort and determination and I think they played as well as they could but lost to a better team at the end of the day.
The team: Kimberley Gi, Roisin G, Jessica C, Hannah M, Angharad O, Hannah W, Emily B, Iona R and Eva B
Well done girls!
