South Bucks League Gateway v Prestwood - Tuesday 8 March

South Bucks League Gateway v Prestwood - Tuesday 8 March

This was the last league match of the season and a squad of Year 6 boys travelled to play close rivals Prestwood Junior School.

The pitch was rather compact for 8-a-side football and the recent rain left the ground very soft under foot and the grass rather long!

Gateway immediately pressed Prestwood back into a defensive position and created a few promising chances. With space at a premium Prestwood defended well frustrating Gateway by closing them down and blocking a whole series of attacking moves. Gateway struggled to capitalise on their dominance but keep the pressure on restricting Prestwood to only a few forays into Gateway’s half.

After 8 minutes, a Gateway corner struck, low and hard, into the box was deflected in the goal by a Prestwood defender to give Gateway the lead. From an almost identical move Prestwood scored a second own goal a few minutes later.

After half-time, Prestwood competed more fiercely for the ball and pushed Gateway onto the back foot. From a direct free kick, they pulled a goal back with a cracking shot from distance.

Gateway responded by creating chance after chance and eventually Hector C scored two more goals to give Gateway a comfortable victory. HJ
