7-a-side Football Competition - 18 May

The Y6 girls travelled to the Linford Christie Sports Stadium, White City, where Southbank International hosted a 7-a-side football competition. The girls played seven 12 minute matches, with a short interval between games, to stretch, grab a snack and have a drink.

The matches were played on astroturf pitches, with side boards to keep the games flowing, with no offsides, throw ins or corners. The team played remarkably well, considering the searing heat and the amount of ground they covered up and down the pitch, attacking and defending and coping with the bumps and bruises they picked up along the way. There were 5 clean sheets which is testimony to some great defending and goal keeping. Apart from their last match, all the other games were very well contested. The girls enjoyed the day out and were pleased to be presented with the 3rd place trophy. Thanks go to Southbank International School for organising the event and to both Gateway supporters, Mrs Bullen and Mrs Patel-Shah, for creating a more exciting atmosphere than the recent Wembley Cup Final! Swim Gala at Pipers Corner Report - 17 May

Thirty children ranging from Yr3-6 had the opportunity to represent Gateway in the Swim Gala at Pipers Corner last Thursday. For some, this was a first experience of swimming in a gala but they were unphased as they each took part in at least one individual race and two relays. We were immensely proud of the way the Gateway children conducted themselves and they did brilliantly to compete against a very strong group of swimmers from the host school. Congratulations to all of the children who took part.

U9 Athletics at Pipers Corner - 22 May

16 U9 girls took part in an athletics event at Pipers corner school on Tuesday. Each girl took part in a 200m run, 75m sprint, long jump, rounders ball throw and relay race. Each girl was awarded points per event which were all added together to give the final number of points. The girls showed great determination, speed and great technique in all disciplines and won each event apart from the long jump where we were only a few points behind Pipers. Phoenix had a great day and got the furthest throw and longest jump overall. Well done to all the girls who took part in a great event.

Y6 Gateway vs Pipers Corner - 24 May

A squad of Y6 girls and boys competed against Pipers Corner in 2nd leg of this Primary gala. With a music tea organised for the same night, Mr Butler was left struggling to fill all the races. Luckily, several children stepped up and volunteered to take on multiple races and relays, meaning they swam 4 or 5 times in little over 10 minutes.

The whole event was informal and friendly with some children gaining their first gala experience, for the school. There were lots of good performances but Pipers had a very strong squad and emerged as clear over all winners.Well done to all those who participated. HJ/SGu
