Take One Picture - all you need to know

Take One Picture - all you need to know

Avid readers will notice there is a clear theme coming through in the Gateway School news this week - It’s all about Take One Picture!

For those who might be new to Gateway or have not had a chance to witness it themselves, in a nutshell Take One Picture is an extraordinary, whole school learning initiative that takes everyone off timetable and is completely child led!

Each year, the National Gallery selects one image from its archives and launches that as the Take One Picture subject. Many of our teachers were fortunate to spend a recent inset day visiting the National Gallery and receiving expert insight about this year's image from gallery staff. They also got to see the painting first hand themselves ahead of the launch. Amidst much anticipation amongst the children, this week we launched the image to the school. It’s Henri Rousseau's 'Surprised!'.

Throughout school there has been much discussion, plotting and planning. Every class is working away on an aspect of the painting that has piqued their interest and next week they start creating! Our teachers will flex and adapt to facilitate the children’s exploration. Maths, Science, D&T, English, French, Art, IT, Music - there is no limit to which areas of the curriculum the learning will enhance. There will surely be a huge and impressive range of creations so make sure to keep the date free for the Take One Picture exhibition (when the whole school displays their work) on Friday 3rd March from 3pm to 6pm.

You can find out more about last year’s exhibition here.
