Team Gold for Year 5 boys and Team Silver for Year 5 girls at Wycombe Phoenix Schools’ Cross Country Event
10th October 2014
Last Saturday, 650 children representing 53 Schools at primary and secondary level were competing in the 11th Wycombe Phoenix Schools’ Cross Country event at Hughenden Valley. This was an ideal opportunity for some of our Year 5 and 6 athletes to get an early season run under their belt.
The Year 5 course took the children round a hilly 1500m circuit, whilst Year 6 children had to endure an extra 500m loop. The children also had to cross a rather cold stream twice, to add to their discomfort!
Autumn arrived with chilly conditions and some torrential downpours made it difficult for children, spectators and organisers alike. Several runners finished without their race number as these had simply disintegrated in the rain.
The first three runners from each team scored points in the team event.
