The Point In Waking Up by Annie Richards

This week has been all about poetry and Mental Health at Gateway School and one fabulous Year 6 pupil felt inspired to write a reflective poem, in her own time, on the subject of Mental Health. She proudly brought it in to show her teachers today and we're so glad she did.

The Point In Waking Up

By Annie Richards

What’s the point in waking up when you have to leave your bed?

What’s the point in waking up when criticism follows you everywhere?

What’s the point in waking up when you have to face a world of hatred?

What’s the point in waking up when our planet is being ruined?

What’s the point in waking up when we are not all treated as equals?

What’s the point in waking up when there are challenges to overcome?

What’s the point in waking up when humanity annihilates what it does not understand?

What’s the point in waking up when one wrong move could ruin it all?

What’s the point in waking up when people are discriminated against?

What’s the point in waking up when we have to face harsh reality?

What’s the point in waking up when wishing on a shooting star is just another fable?

So I ask, what's the point in waking up?

Opportunities are everywhere, you can seize one too.

We are returning our planet to the beautiful place it was, little by little.

We help each other when in need and are always there to catch each other's fall.

We protest against the wrongs and propose the right ideas.

We face all that challenges us and tackle it to learn and stretch our brain.

We love and care for all who trust us, and trust them all the same.

We stand up for the wronged, and help them succeed.

We cheer each other on just as we reach the finish line.

All us outcasts stick together and our friendship grows too strong to break.

There is only one planet we can live on, that planet is Earth.

That is the point in waking up.
