Tour of Britain comes to Great Missenden

Tour of Britain photo for Headline to use 2 (1)There was great excitement around the village last Friday with the news that Mark Cavendish, Sir Bradley Wiggins and a host of other world-famous cyclists were to pass through Great Missenden on their way to Hemel Hempstead from Bath. Due to the unique nature of the occasion, many children took the chance to watch the events from their own villages and left school at lunchtime, whilst the remainder of the school lined the pavements in anticipation. The children were suitably whipped up into fervour by the procession of police motorbikes blaring their sirens and the support vehicles flying through the village honking their horns - it certainly made for an excited bunch of children and a fantastic atmosphere.

A lead group of three flashed through first and the gap that they had opened up only built the anticipation further. When the main peloton did arrive, although over all too quickly, the children found it amazing that some of their heroes were only an arm’s length away! It certainly was a different Friday afternoon at school for the children and one that they won’t forget for a long time!
