U10s Football v Great Missenden - Wednesday 16 March

The U10s had battled well against the Year 6s at squad training on Tuesday and felt ready for the game against Great Missenden on Wednesday. Mr Clark was on paternity leave the last time Gateway played GM and he was eager to see the opposition. The last result was a 1-1 draw in the rounds of the cup but this was the semi-final.

From kick off this was going to be a tough game and Gateway boys knew they had to keep control of the game if they were going to win. A few nail biting moments where both teams missed chances meant it could be either team’s game. Late in the first half it was GM who capitalised on a corner and scramble in the penalty box. 1-0 down and Gateway knew they had to work hard in the second half.

Straight into the second half and Gateway were passing the ball around well. Some fantastic runs were made by Will SCB but the ball just would not go through the posts. An attempt by Adam Y hit the bar and the later it got in the second half the more the boys poured their hearts into the game but to no avail. A 1-0 defeat was hard to stomach when the boys had worked so hard, but there is a lot to be learned from defeat. The boys could walk away knowing they had played their best.

Team: Adam Y, Joss K, Ollie L, Jonty W, Stan C, Dominic H, Harry N, Will SC-B, Kieran M
