U11 Chiltern and South Bucks Cup Match - 5 March 2018

Gateway School vs Woodside

Gateway had home advantage in this match but after all the snow match the pitch was a little heavy and muddy in places meaning that free flowing football proved more challenging than normal.

Gateway had a great deal of the play, during the early stages of the match and were awarded a penalty after just a few minutes after a Woodside player inexplicably ‘patted’ the ball away, while standing in his goal area. The penalty was well struck but a great save from their keeper brought cheers from his Woodside team mates.

Gateway continued to press forward and created many chances but could find no way past the Woodside keeper who continued to impress.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Gateway trying to unlock the Woodside defence and Woodside counter attacking when they had the chance. It seemed inevitable that Gateway would score but at the final whistle it was still 0-0.
Extra time followed and still the deadlock could not be broken so the teams readied themselves for penalties!

Gateway won the toss and decided to shoot first. When the dust, or should I say mud, settled Gateway were worthy winners, scoring all of their penalties to progress into the semi-finals 4-1.

In a subsequent email, the Woodside team manager congratulated both teams for such an exciting game played in a very intense but sporting manner and wished Gateway good luck in the next round.

This match will be arranged as soon as we know the opposition.
