U11 South Bucks Cup - Thursday 12 October 2017

Having played and drawn against Holmer Green in the ESFA Cup recently, the team had to face the same opposition in this local cup tie. Holmer Green started strongly, creating a series of good chances only to be foiled by some resilient defending and a bit of good fortune. Against the run of play, Gateway struck quickly with a flowing move down the right wing and when the ball was pulled back to the edge of the box, Will SC-B hit the ball so sweetly in rocketed into the roof of the opposition’s goal. Within a minute, Gateway were 2 up and added a 3rd after time, both tucked away neatly by George C. Holmer G were not giving up and fought back strongly; this match was far from over. Indecision, in the Gateway goal area, saw Holmer G pull 2 goals back, with 5 minutes still on the clock.

The pressure continued to mount and Holmer Green almost equalised but the ball hit Henry Garstang, ricocheting over the bar. From their next and the final corner of the match, Will SCB, intercepted the ball, ran the length of the pitch, rounded the goalie and missed...not really, he scored to seal a decisive victory for the team. The team have made good progress since last year and are improving with each match; this was their best performance to date. They will face St Peters (away) in the next round on Tuesday 31 October.

Squad: Fred H, Jame B, Fred W, Henry G, George C, Harrison J, Will St C-B, Sam B, Hugh P and Alex C.
