Waste Week
11th March 2016
This week has been National Waste Week and, with the Eco Council's guidance, we have been making a special effort to reduce our food waste.
The playground ladies have been offering sliced fruit at break-time in an effort to reduce the number of barely eaten fruit, being thrown away.
At lunchtime, the children have been encouraged to ask for the portion size that they feel suits their appetite on the day and we have been weighing the food that has not been eaten at the end of each sitting. A bar chart of the figures for Rec/Yrs1/2, Yrs 3/4 and Yrs 5/6 has been displayed at lunchtime, to make children aware of the wastage.
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | |
Rec/Yr1/Yr2 | 4 | 6 | 7.5 | 7.5 | 0 |
Yr3/Yr4 | 3 | 6 | 4.5 | 6 | 0 |
Yr5/Yr6 | 5 | 7 | 8.5 | 5.5 | 0 |
Kitchen | 15 | 10.5 | 6.5 | 14 | 0 |
kg | kg | kg | kg | kg | |
Overall | 27 | 29.5 | 27 | 33 | 0 |
It has been a very worthwhile exercise and the Eco Council will consider future initiatives to reduce food waste at School.
