Year 1 have had a very busy week

Yet again another busy week in Year 1; challenging ourselves in Maths, doubling and halving numbers up to 20 and solving simple addition and subtraction word problems. The children enjoyed using egg boxes to find all the numbers make 6. The focus in English has been on Fairy Tales, thinking of the common features such as traditional beginnings and happy endings.

The children particularly enjoyed completing a bar graph selecting fairy tales which featured castles such as Rapunzel, magic from The Elves and the Shoemaker and even giants in Jack and the Beanstalk.

Our Science topic of Materials is proving to be of great fun and interest to all the children. The children enjoyed reusing plastic bottles and yoghurt pots to make animals and plant bulbs. The children enjoyed playing different instruments in music, made of different materials when asked.

Next week in Science we will be conducting experiments to discover which materials are waterproof. Would you please allow your child to bring a Teddy to school next Friday when they will be our guinea pigs!
It is also hoped that in conjunction with the our Recycling topic we shall be walking to Barnardo’s Charity Shop in the village where we will learn what happens to all our donations. This will be done in class time and the children will have lunch at school as usual.
