Year 1 choose favourite fairy tale characters
26th January 2018
The week started with some super swimming; the children are taking to the water like ducks and all are showing good improvement in water confidence.
The focus in English has been on Fairy Tales, thinking of the common features such as traditional beginnings and happy endings. The children particularly enjoyed completing a bar graph selecting fairy tales which featured castles such as Rapunzel, magic from The Elves and the Shoemaker and even giants as in Jack and the Beanstalk. Using the Morfo program in ICT, the children were able to choose their favourite fairy tale character, to cut them out and to put words relating to the fairy tale into the character’s mouth! In Maths we have been adding by putting the larger number first and counting on.
During Science the children worked enthusiastically finding transparent, translucent and opaque objects within the classroom and immediate vicinity. The recorded work in their Science books is of a very pleasing standard, a sure sign that the children are engaged and learning lots!
Finally, next week we have a trip to the local Barnardo’s charity shop in Great Missenden planned when the children will be able to bring and donate an unwanted toy or book.
