Year 1 compare 2 digit numbers on a 100-square

The children were delighted on Monday morning finding out what each other had been doing over the half-term. There were lots of excited conversations involving fidget spinners! In English this week the children have been independently planning and writing a story based on a picture from ‘The Tin Forest’. There were lots of lovely imaginative ideas involving: aliens, kittens, rainbow explosions and chocolate forests! In Maths, we have been focusing on locating 2-digit numbers on a 100-square; comparing and ordering 2-digit numbers up to 100 and saying a number between two numbers. We also looked at place value, identifying 10s and 1s in 2-digit numbers. In RE this week we were looking at foods eaten at the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali. The children were intrigued to try the different Indian sweets as part of our food focused topic. For Science the children were identifying and classifying a variety of common animals. We have been practising our production daily and ask that lines are continually practised, so that our summer performance will be spectacular!
