Year 1 explore the topic 'houses and homes'
26th February 2016
This week the children have started their topic on houses and homes. Each of the children located their house on Google Maps, using the roads and landmarks to help them. In English we have been focusing on extending our sentences using conjunctions and trying to use accurate punctuation in our writing. In particular, the children have been thinking about where they should place their full stops, commas, capital letters, speech marks and question marks. In Maths we have been working on number bonds to 20 and doubling to 10. We have been trying to use our knowledge of number bonds to answer subtraction questions and to problem solve. In addition to this we have been mentoring all week to help the children understand their next steps in learning. We look forward to seeing you at parents evening next week where we will discuss the mentoring with you.
At home please could you help your child to practise their celebration assembly lines and encourage them to say them in a loud and clear voice.
Next week it will be our Take One Picture week. We will be focussing on the painting ‘Orpheus’ by Roelandt Savery and all of our lessons will be based around this!
