Year 1 - Farm fun

Congratulations to the very well behaved children in Year 1. We were proud of the way they behaved on their visit to Collings Hanger Farm in Prestwood. As you can imagine there was enormous excitement about our first school trip. The aim of the trip was to give the children first hand experience of a farm and Virginia the farmer didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a guided tour of the farm and opportunities to touch and stroke sheep, calves and a very noisy cow. We were amazed how sensible the children were when we were introduced to the field of cows...and a bull, and the children were respectful of the animals and their surroundings.

We watched the pigs being fed and even managed a stroll through a ‘quiet wood’. Not an easy task for some! We were rewarded with seeing deer in the distance and lovely views of the Chilterns.

In topic work this week we ventured outside to identify different trees and we were delighted the children used and applied their knowledge whilst walking through the farm orchard and surrounding fields. Back at school, the children have written thank you letters to Farmer Virginia, which I think she will be delighted to receive.
