Year 1 focus on instruction writing

What a short week we have had! The children came back from the long weekend eager to share lots of stories with the class. This week in English we have continued our learning in instruction writing and are now using time conjunctions successfully. The children have written about their daily routine and have debated fully whether teeth should be brushed before or after breakfast in the morning! Following our Pizza Express trip, we have been writing instructions telling how to make a pizza; the children are now experts at moulding the ‘squishy,’ ‘wet’ pizza dough. In Maths we have been focusing on using money practically in ‘The Gateway Farm Shop’. We have been choosing our shopping, adding up how much money we will need and how much change we should receive. The children enjoyed being ‘bankers’ sorting out the coins and change. In topic we have been looking at the ‘Food Pyramid’ and the 5 food groups. Over dinner perhaps the children could explain which food is part of which group. We are excited about our trip on Monday to Waitrose where we will learn more about these food groups.
