Year 1 focus on healthy eating
3rd May 2019

Year 1 have enjoyed further work on the story Handa Surprise. Children used ‘bubble maps’ in English to help them describe a character and the setting. The children then created and used their own flow maps to independently retell the whole story.
This week in Topic we focused on healthy eating and looked at the food pyramid. We learnt that foods belong to different food groups and each group provides different elements in our diet. Children had an exciting challenge of creating their own ‘healthy plate’, where they had to make sure they had an item from each food group as part of their meal.
Children have also had a busy week in Maths, where we have looked at using repeated addition and arrays to solve multiplication number sentences. Year 1 are becoming increasingly confident in using the correct language of ‘groups of’ and ‘lots of’ when discussing multiplication number sentences.
