Year 1 learn Maths and Science outside as well as inside
28th September 2018
What a busy week Year 1 have had!
In Maths, the children have been looking at the properties of shapes. They first explored the school grounds to see how many different shapes they could spot and learnt that hexagons have six sides and that the bins are hexagonal. Apart from seeing how many sides different shapes had, they also looked to see if any of them were symmetrical. Then they were asked to sort a selection of shapes into a Venn diagram which was a little harder than they first thought!
This week, Science was all about light and how we see. The children looked around to see how many different light sources they could find and then discussed whether they were man-made or a natural source. The sun proved very exciting, particularly when the children went out and made ‘Gruffalo’ shadows!
