Year 1 make delicious, scrumptious and tantalising food in English!

Year 1 have had yet another busy and happy week in school. Time has been spent extending our knowledge of the reading and writing of instructions. We have learnt how these should be set out and we now know that a title is needed, a list of equipment is essential and that lastly our instructions have to be written in full sentences as well as being correctly ordered. This work however, involved making (and eating!) chocolate crispy cakes and therefore it proved to be an enjoyable focus in English. In Maths the children have been concentrating on adding and subtracting 1 digit numbers to/from 2 digit numbers bridging through 10. In ICT the Year 6 children are to be writing books for the Year 1 children and so this week the older children ‘paired’ with the younger children in a workshop situation where ideas were shared. When these stories are written the Year 1 children will be able to enjoy reading them knowing that they have had some input. In Forest School we have been looking for ‘Signs of Spring.’ Observational drawings were done of some of the things we found, such as nests, bluebells, buds and blossom.

The children have their words for our Summer presentation and yet again we would ask if you would please encourage your child to try very hard to learn their lines by heart. Thank you for your help with this.

Mrs Applegate would also like to ask if children who take part in Junk Modelling club could bring in boxes and cartons to their next club session!
