Year 1 - Retelling stories and crossing 10
22nd January 2021

Fairy tales have been the focus this week, with the children learning about and retelling the story of The Little Red Hen. We have learnt that there are lots of different ways to present information such as writing a letter, drawing a story map and using a bubble map. We’ve been using our senses to imagine what the farmyard would look, sound, feel and even smell like. We made finger puppets to practise retelling the story and the children have had lots of fun explaining the story to parents, siblings and pets.
In Maths, we have learned to subtract crossing 10. We know that it is easier to count back to ten first and then use our number bonds to 10 to subtract the remainder. We used tens frames, bead strings and number lines to support our understanding. In our topic work we designed new recycling bins. In science we continued our investigations about materials.
We have been really impressed how the children have remembered to join a Google Meet for guided and independent reading and are enjoying a different way of learning.
