Year 1 search for and discover animal habitats

What a very busy week we have had preparing for our Take One Picture exhibition which we hope you will all take time to visit and enjoy. The painting of The Graham Children provided us with lots of starting points in all areas of the curriculum. In English we focused on writing non-fiction texts and applied this to creating facts our own homes and progressed to writing about Georgian houses and their particular features.

In Maths we have been thinking about time learning the months of the year, the days of the week and also developing an understanding of how our day is divided, such as when we eat lunch and when we go to bed! We also looked at how long a minute is; a long time when we are being silent but a very short time when we are jumping, hopping or clicking fingers.

Forest School was really fun this week and we spent time searching for and discovering animal habitats. The children found worms, woodlice, centipedes and delighted in handling them all! We observed these little creatures through magnifying glasses before setting them free into their natural habitats. We did ensure that all children washed their hands thoroughly after this lesson!
