Year 1 use balance scales to weigh things
19th May 2017
Year 1 have enjoyed a wonderful week of Maths. Tuesday saw us weighing items on balance scales; first we had to estimate how many cubes it would take to make the scales balance. We were amazed how many cubes it took to balance everyday items such as a telephone, water bottle and shoe. On Wednesday we went to the hall for a Maths problem solving session with Mrs Rowe and the Year 6’s. There were a variety of challenges for us to solve, from shape problems, to number problems and even a few fractions! On Thursday we went outside and explored capacity with sand, we counted how many yoghurt pots of sand it took to fill a bowl. The next step will be to measure containers of water and begin looking at millilitres.
