Year 1 visit our local church, St Peter and St Paul

The children in Year 1 had a very exciting start to their week as on Monday we enjoyed a visit to St Peter and St Paul’s our local church in Great Missenden. We had a lovely time finding out what happens at a baptism and the religious significance of this ceremony. Some of the children were invited to be the ‘baptism party’ with the remainder being the members of the congregation. Through this play acting the children learnt a number of facts from the Rev Carolyn Bailey. This week our focus in English has been looking at and describing various settings, in particular the children’s bedrooms. Lots of interesting adjectives were used in order to describe what their room looks like and what it feels like; the ‘red crayon’ may be something you have heard quite a lot about! In Maths we have been learning to estimate quantities and then count to check, sometimes counting in 5’s.

Next week we will be making a simple plan of our school in Humanities.
