Year 1 have a visitor from America

A visit from Dillon’s American friend Jackson made a great Show and Tell on Wednesday. The children heard all about life in America, what it was like to live in New York, the cities buildings and police cars. The children were amazed to hear about Halloween at Jackson’s school and that for lunch they eat sweet potato with marshmallows mixed in!
Busy bees were seen all over school on Thursday during Forest School as the children learnt about pollination and had a go at finding flowers to pollinate with their little pipe-cleaner bees. We hope you saw the photo on Facebook.

Multiplying has been the focus in maths, we have been grouping in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s and counting repeating groups and then recording as multiplication sums e.g. 2x5=10. Some children managed to make 10 towers of 10 as they wanted to write 10x10=100. We feel very proud of our achievements in maths.

This week we have been astounded by the stories the children have written. We have seen use of atmospheric adjectives, useful time conjunctions, character description, setting description, use of speech marks, exclamation marks and commas, ideas arranged into a story with a beginning, middle and end, all written with super spelling! Wow what a lot of progress, well done Year 1!
