Year 2 explore the various emotions of Katie Morag
16th November 2018

Another busy week in year 2 has seen us exploring the various emotions Katie Morag went through in ‘Katie Morag and Tiresome Ted’. Through role play we considered how she felt and why at different points in the story before penning our own letters to Grandma Mainland to tell her all about it.
The children have also been using ambitious adjectives and verbs to describe the storm that kept Katie Morag indoors for days. Descriptions included ‘Swirling, whirling sapphire sea’ - Bella; ‘Blue jagged waves crashing into rocks’ Jack and ‘Inky blue sea and clattering waves’ Hadleigh.
In maths we have been working hard on partitioning numbers into Tens and Units and using our understanding of place value to add multiples of 10 to two digit numbers using coins, bead strings and 100 squares.
Having looked at Great Missenden and considered how it has changed over the years, the children are now studying a contrasting island locality - the Isle of Coll. Photos have shown what a beautiful place it is. Having located the Isle of Coll using atlases, the children have been studying different features of the Island and classifying them as physical or human features.
Thank you for all your support in learning lines for the Christmas play rehearsals of the lines and songs in school are progressing well.
