Year 2 follow Katie Morag's adventures through a storm
29th November 2019

Our English lessons this week have seen us conclude our exploration of Katie Morag’s numerous adventures. Using an illustration of the storm from Katie Morag and the New Pier as inspiration the children worked hard to come up with their own choice of ambitious adjectives and verbs ‘brutal waves crashing against the tiny red, rickety boat.’ - Charlie ‘frothy waves like white horses’ - Elsa ‘howling winds whipped the sea’- Elsie.
Then having studied maps of the Island and considered all there is to see there they wrote a postcard complete with beautiful illustrations in the style of Mairi Hedderwick.
In Maths it has been wonderful to see the children now employing many of the new ways of working we have covered this term confidently on their own. Over the coming weeks we will be using the strategies we have learnt in addition and subtraction to calculate totals and work out change as we look at Money. You can support your child at home by reinforcing counting in 2s, 5s, 10’s and 20’s to aid their work with coins.
