Year 2 children create their own tartan

Year 2 children create their own tartan

In Year 2 this week we have been finding out lots more about Katie Morag, particularly her feelings and what she gets up to on her adventures on the Isle of Struay.

We began the week by identifying how Katie was feeling during different parts of the story ‘Katie Morag and Tiresome Ted’. We empathised with her. Then gave lots of examples for when her feelings were changing, referring to the different parts of the story. Using all this information we wrote an informal letter as Katie to Grannie Mainland, including lots of detail about Katie’s adventures that day.

As you can see from the photo, we have also created our own tartan, we were able to apply our knowledge of weaving that we have learnt during design technology to weave pieces of card together. Aren’t they amazing?

To support your child’s learning this week you could discuss which coins they would need to use when visiting the shops or counting their pocket money.
