Year 2 children embrace English topic - Roald Dahl

The children have taken no time at all to settle in to Year 2 and we have been immersing ourselves in the world of the Minpins as part of our English topic of Roald Dahl. The children have thoroughly enjoyed thinking up their own ‘gobblefunk’ words to describe the terrifying Gruncher and took little encouragement to get into character as poor Little Billy running through the forest to escape the ‘bloodsuckling spitler’ in our drama session at Great Missenden Hall. In forest school the children imagined they were in the forest and listened hard to see if they, like little Billy, could hear the Spitler approaching. Thankfully what we heard were the sounds of the leaves rustling in the breeze, birds singing and the occasional vehicle passing. We were also lucky enough to find a colony of ladybirds at various stages of their life cycle which the children were fascinated by. Having been unable to track the Gruncher down themselves the children have now made wanted posters describing the Gruncher. So if you see a ‘Monsterous beast’ (Noah) with ‘sharp long claws’ (Lewis) and a crocodile head ‘blowing yellow orange smoke’ (Ella) then please do let us know!
