Year 2 children study the Isle of Coll
6th November 2015
The children have been busy this week. Having looked around Great Missenden and considered how it has changed over the years, they are now studying a contrasting island locality - the Isle of Coll. Using atlases they know where it is, how far it is from Great Missenden and how they could get there. Photos have shown what a beautiful place it is. It has also brought out the Scottish accents as well!
In English, the children are starting to study Mairi Hedderwick’s stories about a young girl. Katie Morag. The Isle of Struay where she lives in based on the Isle of Coll. They have looked at some of the stories, noting down similarities in the books and information given about the setting through written descriptions and the illustrations. The children also enjoyed listening to a story clip and added other features to their list of observations.
We have stuck requests for costumes for the Christmas presentation into their reading records; most of the children are shepherds and angels, but please could you check. It isn’t very long before December is upon us! Thank you.
