Year 2 - Fabulous role models

Year 2 - Fabulous role models

We definitely hit the ground running this week with the children enthusiastically settling into their new year group. It is wonderful to see how they have taken their ‘promotion’ to a new year group seriously and are keen to demonstrate being good role models to the younger years.

It has been very evident in the many extra curricular clubs that the children love spending time in a club with their siblings. It was delightful to see Year 2 children taking care of their younger brothers and sisters; showing them how to behave and what to do. It is a strength of the school that many children are sharing their education and enriching experiences with cousins and extended families.

We have been impressed with the children’s empathy and their understanding of the changing situation for the Royal family. Learning for Life lessons give them a structured and safe environment to discuss how they are feeling. Fortunately, the staff know the children well and can quickly support those who are feeling upset or need to discuss the changes that are happening.

On a happier note, we have introduced our topic of our local environment which dovetails beautifully with our focus on the very local author Roald Dahl. We will be using this opportunity to not only visit local landmarks but also the Roald Dahl Museum in Aylesbury to experience and investigate his amazing story writing skills. (more details to follow). We are fortunate to have a wealth of resources which will bring this topic to life and enable the children to explore first hand the wonderful whizz-banging stories he wrote.
