Year 2 learn about the properties of different materials
6th October 2017
In Science we have been learning about the properties of different materials and thinking about why they are used. This week in Year 2 we carried out our own fair test.
Mrs Applegate needed to mend a pair of trousers that had a hole in and wanted us to find out which fabric would be best for the job. We thought it would need to be strong and thought of lots of ways we could test this. Vihaan said, “We could scrape the material on the ground” and Dillon said, “ We could drop stones on the material and see if it made a hole”. We all thought that our trousers normally got holes when we skidded along the ground so we decided that rubbing the fabric with stone would be a good test. We worked carefully in groups to test each material, keeping it fair by using the same pressure, the same stone and the same size piece of material. Luckily, we managed to solve Mrs Applegate’s problem and found out the tweed fabric worked best. In ICT we have all enjoyed using the iPads to create our own book to tell Year 1 how to keep safe on the internet. We have enjoyed watching Hector’s World where we have found out that we mustn’t share our personal details online.
We have all enjoyed hearing our poem for the House Poetry competition and are looking forward to learning it at home with lots of expression and even some actions!
