Year 2 learn about Punch and Judy
17th June 2016
Year 2 have had a super week. We started off the week celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday. There were so many amazing activities for us to participate in and we learnt lots of interesting facts about the Queen. Jonathan learnt that the Queen has four dogs and their breed is Corgi and Millie learnt that the Queen’s actual birthday is the 21st April. The children made a timeline which included many significant events in the Queen’s life. This will help them create their own timeline of their life with their photographs in chronological order next week.
On Thursday we watched a Punch and Judy, we thoroughly enjoyed the play, we laughed and laughed! We learnt a lot about the history of Punch and Judy; it arrived in England in 1662 from Italy and became a very popular tourist attraction at the seaside in Victorian times. We were intrigued to find out how Punch’s voice is so squeaky, it is made by a swazzle that sits on the tongue. In the afternoon, we made our own Punch and Judy puppets and theatre, so we can produce our own Punch and Judy show.
A polite reminder for children who haven’t bought in their photographs from when they were a baby, toddler and now, please can we have them in on Monday 20th June.
Could we please have the children’s costumes for the play in on Friday 24th June.
