Year 2 plan a seaside poem
12th June 2015
This week
This week in English the children have been busy planning a seaside poem. We first looked at a Pie Corbett poem for inspiration, the children then had to think of the different things they might see, hear, smell, taste, touch and dream of while at the seaside. We teamed these ideas with some amazing adjectives to expand sentences and some wonderful non rhyming poetry began to develop. Please come and take a look in the classrooms on the summer fun day as all the poems will be on display. Here’s a teaser to whet your appetite…. “Watching the waves crash on the shore and drag the sand back into the sea…”
Next Week
The children are already excitedly talking about another trip which we are going on next week. On Tuesday morning we will be taking a trip to Radlett and Bushey Reform Synagogue as part of our R.E topic on special books. While there the children will gain first hand experience of writing in Hebrew, using a yad to read a Torah scroll and even tasting a delicious Jewish treat...It is a wonderful trip and we hope, that as with past visits, the children will gain a great deal from this first hand experience.
At home
We have been doing more work on money and change this week in our maths sessions. The children have been totalling amounts which add up to more than £1 and finding change. Any money or shopping games at home would help your child to consolidate this learning.
