Year 2 plant a mixture of salad seeds

After a sunny start to the term, Year 2 have been finding out about our new topics for the summer - the seaside and plants. We started the week by thinking about what we already know about plants and what we need to do to look after them and keep them healthy. We then had lots of fun planting our own seeds in pots. We planted radishes, spinach, lettuce, spring onion, beetroot, tomatoes and courgettes. We are hoping to make our own salad by the end of the term if we manage to look after them!

We also started our seaside topic by making some beautiful portholes showing colourful fish, jelly fish and shells. The children really enjoyed thinking about what they might find under the sea which introduced our book for the next few weeks ‘Flotsam’ by David Weisner. The children will be taken on an underwater adventure and enjoy the weird and wonderful creatures found in the story.

At home you make like to read some seaside stories or poems or have a go at growing some seeds.
