Year 2 study the Isle of Coll
4th November 2016
The children have been busy this week. Having looked around Great Missenden and considered how it has changed over the years, they are now studying a contrasting island locality – the Isle of Coll. Using atlases and photographs they have been studying where it is, naming and recognising human and physical features. They have also begun to learn the meaning of a few Scottish words too, their accents are coming along very well!
In English, the children are starting to study Mairi Hedderwick’s stories about a young girl called Katie Morag. She lives on the Isle of Struay which is based on the Isle of Coll. They had a ‘book buffet’ looking at some of the stories and noting down similarities in the books. We then went on to find information about the setting through written descriptions and the illustrations. The children also enjoyed listening to a story clip and added other features to their list of observations.
Year 2 will have their performance of the poem, next week, on Thursday 10th November.
