Year 2 'travel the world'

This week in Year 2 it has been wonderful to see all of the children coming into school with smiles and getting themselves organised in their new classes.

We started our new topic all about Contrasting Localities and used atlases and maps to locate the United Kingdom, Great Missenden and the Isle of Coll which is just off the coast of Scotland. We also found all of the places that we went on our holidays and were amazed at how far around the world some of us had been! In science we started looking at different materials and had to describe the way they felt without looking at them. We found lots of things made from wood, plastic, metal, glass and fabric and are looking forward to carrying out some investigations using materials.

Next week, we will be finding out more about Great Missenden and the buildings around us and looking at the materials used in the village.

To support your child’s learning at home, you may wish to look for some materials around the house and discuss why they have been used to make certain objects.
