Year 2 visit a Synagogue
19th May 2014
On Wednesday 7th May, Year 2 spent a very enjoyable and informative time at Radlett and Bushey Reform Synagogue as part of their R.E. topic on special books.
The children were very excited at the prospect of seeing a ‘real’ Torah scroll and were quick to recognise features of the Jewish faith such as the Menorah, Hebrew writing, the Ark and the Tree of Life, which we had talked about at school.
The best bit of the visit was when Karin cut up a loaf of Challah bread and the children were able to eat it along with a glass of squash.
The gasp of awe when the ark was opened to reveal the Torah scrolls said it all and their amazement continued when they were able to have a closer look.
Adam said “I enjoyed writing my name in Hebrew and eating the challah bread. It was amazing, it blew my mind!”’
“I had an excellent time at the synagogue. I enjoyed seeing a real Torah scroll close up.” Thara
The children were amazed and amazing at the same time, as their behaviour was impeccable.
