Year 3 crack the column method for subtraction
10th May 2019

Cracking the column method for subtraction is often tricky, especially when the bottom digit in a column is higher than the top one! The children learn to exchange (steal) from the next column. Doing this practically enables the children to explore this concept and deepen their understanding. In class, we worked with place value counters to tackle word problems before moving on to the written method in our books.
