Year 4 find out about some deadly rainforest animals
14th October 2016
This week, the children have enjoyed finding out about some deadly rainforest animals! Having considered previous learning about food chains, the students were keen to find out whether any animals were at the top of a food chain. This lead us to the term Apex Predator - a predator residing at the top of a food chain upon which no other creatures prey. In Science, we found out about a 9 metre long Green Anaconda, Bullet Ants whose bite is likened to being shot and Poison Dart Frogs with enough poison to kill 20 humans. Cancel the school trip to the Congo! We used the information to design a branching key to help sort the animals based on their characteristics. At home, you could ask your child to make a branching key to sort minibeasts found in the garden.
