Sixteen children from Year 4 took part in a three way competition with Thorpe House and Longhurst schools on Tuesday 17th January. Matches lasted 15 minutes. The A team played 8 a-side on a relatively large pitch which helped to stretch play and led to two exciting and well contested matches.

The B team played 7-a-side on a smaller pitch and started well with some good end to end play but by half time some players, from both teams, started to neglect their positional responsibilities and crowding round the ball stifled the game resulting in a midfield melay. Ronnie P-B lifted Gateway spirits with a well struck goal from long range.

In their 2nd match play was much more open and both teams spread play to the wings more consistently to launch attacks. After going 1-0 down it was Ronnie P-B who equalised after pressuring the Longhurst defence into a mistake to force home the ball from 5m.

The children played with great spirit and gained a huge amount of experience, enjoying this friendly but challenging afternoon. HJ
