Year 4 Football Festival Tuesday 21 April

Gateway hosted the 3rd annual football festival at Magnolia Park. This fixture allows the children the opportunity to play in a friendly atmosphere with the emphasis on teamwork, skill and fairplay. There were no point, medals or cups awarded. Eight teams signed up for the event with each team playing 5 matches.

Gateway played well throughout the tournament. There was some strong defending and good opportunities to score. Now and then the passing was a little loose but on the whole a solid performance considering that this was their first time playing as a team.

The boys remained unbeaten, drawing 4 and winning 1 match. With a little more composure in front of goal this might have been an even better performance as several players hit the woodwork or came very close to scoring.

Joss K played in goal for the final match and pulled off a string of fine saves. Dominic H probably scored the pick of Gateway’s goals. At the end of a flowing move he took a neat touch to set the ball and then fired the ball in from 18m.

There were obviously some disappointed players, back at school, who missed out on this occasion but we hope to involve more of the squad in competitive football next season. HJ

Team - Joss K, Dominic H, Harry N, Marcus H, Adam Y, Oliver L, Kieran M
